Challenge
After a disaster, it is important to take care of the basic needs of infants and young children. This includes providing them with clean and safe food, water, shelter, proper hygiene, and medical care.
“How might we create a dedicated area for infants at the emergency shelters?”
Result
Our project focused on helping homeless parents with infants aged 0-12 months living in tent cities after a disaster. These parents and their infants have been displaced from their homes and are in need of basic necessities such as clean and safe living conditions, comfort, and a sense of security.
During a one-day ideation workshop, we brainstormed ideas to address these needs and came up with the concept of an inflatable baby cradle. This solution offers several benefits, including comfort, lightness, and cost-effectiveness, which are all important considerations in an emergency situation.
The inflatable design of the cradle allows it to be easily transported and set up in a variety of locations, such as tent cities or temporary shelters. It can also be deflated and stored when not in use, taking up minimal space and making it easy to carry around.
Additionally, the inflatable design provides a comfortable and safe place for babies to sleep and rest, which is essential for their development and well-being. By addressing the basic needs of infants in this way, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of homeless parents and their young children during this difficult time.
